Petit traité de manipulation à l’usage des honnêtes gens, Robert-Vincent Joule et Jean-Léon Beauvois : exploitations pédagogiques

Abstract

Résumé En communication en général et en situation pédagogique en particulier, l’objet de communication peut accrocher ou non l’auditoire. Le souhait le plus ardent du communicateur demeure cependant que sa communication rencontre l’intérêt et l’attention de ses auditeurs. Mais alors se pose la question de savoir de quels facteurs dépendent l’intérêt et l’attention que manifestent l’assistance d’une communication surtout pédagogique ? À cette question ont essayé de répondre Robert-Vincent et Jean-Léon Beauvois dans leur ouvrage commun Petit traité de manipulation à l’usage des honnêtes gens que nous avons entrepris d’étudier pour y identifier et analyser les facteurs déterminants d’une communication efficiente, surtout dans le domaine pédagogique. Pour y parvenir, nous sommes parti de quelques hypothèses heuristiques et avons procédé à une recherche documentaire dont nous avons exploité les résultats avec les méthodes objective, esthétique et analytique. Il en résulte que l’oeuvre de Joule et de Beauvois est un traité de psychologie sociale sur les ressorts de nos agissements quotidiens qui propose soixante-huit techniques de manipulation pour amener quelqu’un à faire ce qu’on souhaite le voir faire. À l’analyse, nous avons réalisé que ces techniques relevant du domaine de la psychologie sociale, peuvent être exploitées par transpositions didactiques dans maints domaines des sciences sociales (l’anthropologie, la politique, le marketing,) pour obtenir des changements du comportement humain, et surtout dans les domaines de la formation : la pédagogie, l’andragogie et l’heutagogie. Dans ce domaine précis de la formation, l’exploitation judicieuse de ces techniques de manipulation pour des résultats probants, sera tributaire de certaines habiletés situationnellespropres au formateur, mais aussi des conditions matérielles propices qu’il crée pour cette fin. The communicator's most ardent wish, however, is that his or her communication should attract the interest and attention of his or her listeners. But then the question arises as to what factors determine the interest and attention shown by the audience of a communication, especially a pedagogical one? Robert-Vincent Joule and Jean-Léon Beauvois attempted to answer this question in their joint work Petit traité de manipulation à l'usage des honnêtes gens, which we have undertaken to study in order to identify and analyze the determining factors in effective communication, especially in the educational field. To achieve this, we started from a number of heuristic hypotheses and carried out documentary research, using objective, aesthetic and analytical methods. The result is that Joule and Beauvois's work is a social psychology treatise on the motives behind our everyday actions, with sixty-eight techniques for manipulating people into doing what we want them to do. On analysis, we realized that these techniques from the field of social psychology, can be used by didactic transposition in many areas of the social sciences (anthropology, politics, marketing, etc.) to bring about changes in human behaviors, and especially in the fields of training: pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy. In this specific field of training, the judicious use of these manipulation techniques to achieve convincing results will depend on certain situational skills specific to the trainer, but also on the favorable material conditions that he or she creates for this purpose.
