Performances zootechniques et économiques de poulets locaux nourris avec des rations alimentaires à base de quatre variétés de grains de maïs au Bénin

Abstract

The study aims to compare the effect of four varieties of maize EVDT 97STRW97STRW, TZPBSRWSRW, AK94DMRESRY and Massawe on Bio-economic performances of the local ecotype of chicken Sahoue Koungbo. The chicks were divided in 16 groups of 9 chickens each with 4 replicates by variety of maize. The feed intake, live weight growth, technical and economic feed efficiency, carcass characteristics were evaluated. Analyze of variance and Kruskall Wallis test wereused. Results showed that no significant (p>0.05) difference existed between the diets based on the four varieties of maize used to feed the poultry at 22 weeks old in terms of daily feed intake [45 to 46 g dry matter (DM)/chicken/day), live weight (910 to 1,039 g), feed conversion ratio (6.94 to 8.22 kg DM feed/kg live weight gain) and economic feed efficiency (1.9 to 2.11 FCFA live weight gain/FCFA feed). But a significant difference (p<0.05) was found between the diets based on the four varieties of maize used to feed the poultry at 22 weeks old regarding the carcass weight (691.4 to 991.4 g), the thigh weight (52 to 79.3 g) and head + feet weight (66.3 to 104.9 g) in advantage of the local variety of maize Massawe. In conclusion, the local maize variety white Massawe appears as the best variety of maize to be used in local chicken Sahoue Koungbo feeding
