| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Varicocele is a varicose dilatation of pampiniform plexus veins, a frequent reason for consultation ranging from scrotal discomfort, testicular pain, testicular atrophy and infertility. The surgical management is diverse and is done by endoscopic or open surgery according to the different techniques. Objective: To list the indications, techniques and results of varicocele surgery at Cotonou CNHU-HKM. Patients and methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study conducted at the University Clinic of Urology - Andrology of the Hubert Koutoukou Maga National University Center in Cotonou from January 2009 to December 2018 and involved 86 patients. with varicocele diagnosed and operated. The variables studied were: age, occupation, educational level, marital status, indications, techniques used and their results. Results: The most represented age group is 30-39 years with a rate of 43.2%, 74% were married, more than half (55.8%) were civil servants. The main reasons for intervention were spermogram abnormalities in 61.63% of cases followed by testicular pain (27%) and large bursae (7%) and the palomo technique was used in 100% of our patients. Conclusion: Varicocele is a common male pathology of young adults. The surgical indication is motivated by a spermogram abnormality or the occurrence of scrotal pain. The palomo technique is the most widely used with little complication and a short hospital stay at CNHU-HKM in Cotonou | |
