Sizing of Hybrid Photovoltaic/Diesel Power Plant for Electrification of Commune “Golfe 3” in Lomé, Togolese Republic

Abstract

Togo's low electrification rate and heavy reliance on conventional energy sources and electricity imports hinder its development. To achieve sustainable development goals and energy autonomy, embracing renewable energy is crucial. This study focuses on sizing a hybrid photovoltaic/diesel power plant to reduce electricity costs and improve accessibility. By analyzing monthly sunshine data and assessing energy requirements, three distinct cycles were identified, enabling the design of the photovoltaic and diesel generator systems. The cost of purchasing energy from the hybrid plant was compared to conventional energy prices to evaluate its financial viability.
