In the context of »global learning« (Schreiber/Siege 2016) the term of ›learning from Africa‹ is used in many research enquiries as a pedagogical approach to globalization processes. In particular, the genre of children’s and youth literature, in its function as a carrier of childhood and educational ideals, also attempts to shape this intercultural dimension of education. This paper is interested in the various concepts modelled by German authors in this perspective. It shows that African societies are represented by leitmotifs such as originality, religious tolerance, the power of reconciliation, etc. The children’s books use these models as a kind of ›thinking in option values‹.
