Abstract

To be real, effective and sustainable, human development must be collective work which implicates the authorities, the population and the family that is the base of the society. But, several problems such as maternel mortality and the socioeconomic situation of families constitute a handicap to the attaining of these development objectives. Inspite of science advancement, the health area of Porto-Novo – Aguégués - Sèmè Kpodji has contrary to another health area of Ouémé, continues to record a high rate of maternal mortality. From the information obtained, it is revealed that the absence of the mother is fatal to the well- being and the socioeconomic development of the children and of the husband, mainly to the survival of the new born. Spouses don't often succeed in winning a role over the other, the one of father and the one of mother to give the orphans the maintenance and the education they need. So we ought to recognize that a mother is the pillar of the family and her death has important psychological and physical repercussions on the socioeconomic development of the latter. The improvement of cares quality, the changing of the behaviour of health officers, the increase of the number of skilled health agents, the improvement of health materials and a better care of orphans in their infancy by families and adequate structures are of great necessity.
