Abstract

Well-being in perfect health is a factor of promoting economic growth. Universal health coverage appears to be an excellent mean of access to fair quality health care. In view of the benefits associated with universal health coverage, efforts should be made to establish and strengthen it in countries that have opted for this strategy. This study is part of this perspective and aims to identify the determinants of universal health coverage through a systematic review. We conducted a systematic review of the scientific literature using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. At the end of the bibliographical search, two researchers worked alongside in time on the selection of articles and the extraction of data concerning these studies. The bibliographical search resulted in the extraction of 1,631 articles. At the end, 25 articles were selected and included in the systematic review. Political, economic, social, health and demographic determinants were falls under the implementation of universal health coverage. Achieving and/or strengthening universal health coverage at the country level is not a matter of health sector only, but can also be the result of a multidisciplinary process, requiring the collaboration of several actors from various sectors.
