A Survey on Robust Wireless JPEG 2000 Images and Video Transmission Systems

ResumeThis paper presents a scalable and dynamicschemefor robust JPEG 2000 images/video transmission over wirelesschannels. The proposed system relies on an adaptivebandwidth estimation tool to select the suitable JPEG 2000streams,layersand resolution. A Wireless JPEG 2000 (JPWL)compliant Forward Error Correction (FEC) schemeisintroduced.Anoptimallayer oriented Unequal ErrorProtectionForward Error Correctionrate allocation schemeisproposed to ensure codestreams protection againsttransmission errors.The main advantages of the proposedschemeare itsoptimality,its compliance toWireless JPEG2000(the 11thpart of JPEG 2000standard)and its low timeconsumption. Wedemonstrate thatourproposedschemeoutperforms the layer oriented FEC scheme proposed byGuoet al.and other existinglayer based FECschemes.We alsoshow that,dueto its low run time,ourlayer based scheme is agood candidate for highly time constrainedmotionJPEG 2000video streaming applications,thus, in this sense, itsovercomesthe limitation ofoptimalpacket oriented FEC rate allocationscheme.We then validate the effectiveness of our proposedlayer oriented schemewitha Wireless Motion JPEG 2000client/server application
