African Illegal Immigrants’ Disillusionment in Europe: a Study of Amma Darko’s Beyond the Horizon
Abstract
Many hopeless young Africans leave their home country seeking a better tomorrow in Europe. But once they get to Europe, they realise that life is very tough there. It is in this wake that I intend to focus my analysis on the characters of Mara, Akobi, Vivian, and Osey in Amma Darko’s Beyond the Horizon, who migrate to Germany only to become disenchanted. This study shows that young Africans had better stay in their home country rather than venturing into an unknown setting as the destination is not always glorious.
